GRAND PRIX LEGEND
George Boillot
When Archduke Franz Ferdinand of the Austro-Hungarian empire - the great, great-uncle of current Alpine WEC star, Ferdinand Habsburg - was assassinated in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, the French Grand Prix, scheduled for July 4, still went ahead. And, with the race around the roads of Lyon being staged on a Saturday, a party atmosphere prevailed - a sort of last hurrah before darkness would fall over Europe. The undoubted star at the time was French racing legend and airforce pilot George Boillot.
GRAND PRIX LEGEND
Ayrton Senna
The 1985 Portuguese Grand Prix wasn’t just a race—it was the stage for a young Ayrton Senna to etch his name into Formula One folklore. That rainy afternoon at Estoril, Senna didn’t just win; he transformed. It was an awakening for the sport, too - a moment when the paddock and fans alike realized they were witnessing something exceptional.
Welcome to the inaugural edition of Grand Épreuve
Formula One has been my lifelong passion. Having been involved with motorsport across four decades, I felt 2025 was the perfect moment to create something special - a publication that captures the essence of Formula One in print form.
Grand Épreuve celebrates what makes this sport extraordinary: the cars and their incredible engineering, the drivers and the dedicated people behind the scenes.
I hope you enjoy the magazine and look forward to your continued support.
Cheers
Oscar de Vries
